The direct Vision Safety Standard (DVS) & HGV Safety Permit Scheme.

This is for heavy goods vehicles (HGV's) that require operators of lorries over 12 tonnes of gross vehicle weight to obtain a safety permit before entering and operating in most of Greater London.

Failure to have this in place from 28th October 2024 may mean you receive a penalty charge notice (PCN) of up to £550 per day per vehicle.

PSS Requirements

Direct Vision Standard 2024 requires all HGV vehicles to have a front sensor system that detects pedestrians or cyclists entering the blind spot area in front of a vehicle.

Detection must not be activated by parked vehicles or street obstacles, it must recognise vulnerable road users and activate to a range of 2m along the front of the vehicle.

BSIS - Blind Spot Information

All vehicles must have a blind spot information system.

This system should only provide the information signal to the driver in response to a vulnerable road user and not a car or street obstacle unless a collision was imminent.

The system must activate at all vehicle speeds between 0 km/h and 30 km/h and be able to issue information signals and warnings.
